Petrie Software evolved as a small IT Development Company specializing in the design and implementation of software technology in the gaming sector, specific to betting on sports and horse racing events.

The company was established in 1983. The initial primary markets were medical, optometry and educational (primary and secondary schools). Towards the late 1980's it was evident that we had created dominance in a niche market - betting on horse racing. This later developed into sports and spread betting.

In 1997, an alliance was formed with IGN, the horse racing channel of Multichoice's DSTV satellite network. This alliance involved the dissemination of betting data via satellite to the channel and our clients. Subsequently, this service has been replaced by TellyTrack with whom we continue to share a close relationship.

New Gambling Legislation introduced in 1999 created the need for new software in South Africa. In January 2002 TurfSport CC was formed with a new management and development structure as a direct continuation of Petrie Software.

Since its existence, TurfSport has dominated the South African market; it is respected as a stable product in the industry. The latest TurfSport² Wagering System has been tested and is compliant with the SABS Standard 1718 part 4 as stipulated by National Gambling Board legislation.

TurfSport's competitive advantage lies in the fact that the owners have developed betting software widely used within the industry. Apart from this, the members have accumulated combined industry specific experience amounting to thirty years.
